Mussiro refers to root, a sought-after forest special treasure that is mainly used in Northern Mozambique as a cure for diseases, for decorative purposes and also as to treat skin. It was also traditionally used by young women as a symbol to preserve their chastity.
Today even the current generations embrace Mussiro; a tradition that was started by their great grandparents. We picked the name Mussiro for our trips because we are committed to exposing the roots of Mozambique and not only it’s superficial face.

We have Day Trips to Inhaca, Maputo Special Reserve, Kruger Park, Calanga Beach, and a few other. We also have 5 day beach hoping expeditions by Overlander and a few longer expeditions that take you all the way to the north, from Maputo to Quirimbas. We also have a 3 day expedition that takes you to Kruger Park but using the Mozambican gates on the Limpopo Region. We have Moz Art, our flagship tour in the Maputo, where you can learn how to design batiks, or wood carving. You can meet a traditional healer and apply Mussiro yourself 🙂

Our Maputo Special Reserve Tour Guide is Simba, he is originally from Zimbabwe but he has lived and worked in almost all southern African countries. For more than 8 years he was guiding in Gorongosa before he moved to Zimbabwe where he guided in Hangwe Nature Reserve.
You are most likely to find George at Kruger National Park, Maputo Special Reserve or Limpopo, he loves nature, wildlife, cars, and football. We have been trying to put all the four things together but it has been hard to teach lions to play football, but we will get there.
Belmiro is a Mozambican guide, artist and DJ. He started off as a guide in Swaziland then moved to South Africa for the last 10yrs. Having traveled to every single corner of Swaziland.
He then decided to move back and guide from home. Belmiro is your go-to guy for anything off the beaten tracks.
You will find Jose mostly on Maputo Special Reserve, Limpopo and Kruger Park, stay tuned.. you will notice when you hear that Portuguese or English word with that special Spanish accent… BENGA! 🙂
Born and raised in Maputo, Jacira had always been attracted to various forms of expression and art. She wants to show the other side of Maputo and our amazingly talented and welcoming people!
Alvaro Taruma was born in Inhaca, Álvaro is a writer, a poet, and natural host. He has a few books published and if you travel with Álvaro one of these days is very likely that you will become a character for his next book. 🙂
He is our tester, we send him loose to explore a new expedition, if he comes back then it might be safe to open a new signature trip there. It never happened that he didn’t come back, so far 🙂
