Ponta do Ouro

The day

We collect you in Maputo and cross the bridge, with the view over the point where the Matola river meets the Indian Ocean. The road south empties out quickly, and part of it runs through Maputo National Park, where giraffe, impala and elephant are often standing near the track. About an hour and a half in, we park at Ponta do Ouro and walk you down to the beach, where your host stays for the day with shade, a cool box full of ice and an eye on your things, so you can wander. Lunch is at whichever beachfront restaurant you like the look of, and the seafood is worth it. If you want more than the beach, we can arrange a sea safari, swimming with wild dolphins, or a first dive for someone who has never dived; those cost extra, depend on the sea, and need asking for in advance. Between July and October the humpbacks are passing. Around 4.30pm we start back, with a second chance at the animals in the park.
