Tofo Tailor Made Tour

Probably the most popular destination in Mozambique. If our signature trip does not fit your needs, a Tofo tailor made tour is, for sure, a “must do”. Frequently visited by the South African traveler community, but also by the Maputo community as destination for weekend trips, Tofo turns out to be one of the most prepared places to receive tourists.

Still, Tofo’s beach has not lost its genuine charm. The bay still lives around the local market, where fishermen sell lobsters still alive at a very affordable price.

Tofo Bay is so versatile in terms of nautical activities, but we highlight surfing, swimming with whale sharks, snorkeling and diving.

Around Tofo you will find other treasures, such as Barra beach and Rocha beach. Do not miss the sunset at barra beach, on a dhow cruise through the mangrove.

Tofo has a great diversity of accommodation, from the more conventional hotel like Hotel Tofo Mar, to the local lodgings and backpackers, like Fatimas. We like almost all of them, to add to these two we also recommend the Baia Sonambula, the Mozambeats, the Casa da Praia and Casa Barry. Each one has its own charm and specifications that matches a certain kind of traveler. But there are many others who are equally good. If you have any questions, please ask us.

If you stay on the beach, be aware that the south side of the bay is where the sea is quieter. That is, if you have to choose and you have no other criteria, use this one.

At Tofo beach you cannot miss the main nautical activities. The Tofo is a privileged place to do an ocean safari and swim with whale sharks. Please do not miss this opportunity.

When you go to Praia da Barra do not miss a sunset walk in the mangrove or a lunch (or dinner) in the Green Turtle restaurant, many say it is the best restaurant in all of Mozambique. It is arguable but undeniably one of the best.

You can also stay in Barra beach; the option is between having a quieter and more isolated experience (Barra beach) or busy and lively (Tofo Beach).

Tofo is about 15 kms from the city of Inhambane, which is also charming. In Inhambane there is an airport with regular LAM flights. The car trip from Maputo to Tofo is also possible, and even recommended, as there are countless worthwhile stops, such as Manhiça, Quissico, Chizavane, Inhacoongo, Inharrime, among others.
